I found it running a process called "updater.exe" in ProgramData\updater (Windows 7) which was being started by HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. I hope this helps.
Thanks Nathan! My son and I have been searching for this pest for hours. I recognized the process mentioned and killed it eliminating the icon in the tool try right away. Had done all of the above steps and it was still there. It seems to have replicated the "Ask" toolbar program but with a lower case first letter.
Help! Every time I End Process on updater.exe and delete it from the Registry (as Nathan saif) It keeps coming back - immediately!
